Particle Cosmology: The Next Generation

What is dark matter? Where is all the antimatter? What lies beyond the Standard Model of particle physics? Observational cosmology, through precise measurements of the structure of the universe across cosmic epochs, has emerged as a powerful tool to approach these questions, complementary to traditional particle physics experiments, giving rise to the field of "particle cosmology". This talk will focus on the evolving search for dark matter, dark energy, and the connection of these with the beginning, and end, of the universe.

BIO: Dr. Evan McDonough is an Associate Professor at the University of Winnipeg, and the Past-Director of the Winnipeg Institute for Theoretical Physics. His work studies the interconnections of quantum physics and astrophysics. He received his PhD from McGill University in 2017, for which he was awarded the national P.R. Wallace Thesis prize, and subsequently held prize postdoctoral fellowships at Brown University, MIT, and the U. of Chicago. He joined the University of Winnipeg in 2021.
